A look back at SPS IPC Drives 2016

SPS IPC Drives was held this year from November 22 - 24, 2016 in Nuremberg.

There were more than 60,000 visitors over 3 days at the trade show for electric automation, systems and components. We would like to thank everyone who visited our stand in Hall 6-230.

These were our highlights:

logi.CAD 3 – the most modern FBS editor on the market

The major highlight in logi.CAD 3 is the new FBS editor that is available for installation as an add-on. The new graphical editor supports intelligent line routing, enables speedy creation of objects via content assistance, contains an interface editor and it also gives immediate feedback on errors during programming.
Another new feature is the integration of C++ in addition to C code. logi.CAD 3 thus offers more flexibility in the creation of control applications. HTML documentation allows help for function blocks to be generated quickly and automatically.

Support for the most innovative control platforms

Revolution PI, based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, includes a flexible add-on module for I/Os over the web configurator. With logi.CAD 3 and logi.RTS, RevPi becomes a cost-effective and expandable starter kit for industrial automation in accordance with IEC 61131-3. https://revolution.kunbus.de/

MICA is an IPC for use in harsh environments (IP67 certified). The installed basic Linux system provides a virtualisation hypervisor, in which virtual containers can be started. logi.cals makes the PLC runtime system logi.RTS available and enables direct access to local I/Os on the MICA. http://www.harting-mica.com/

phyPLC Kit – Custom PLCs with PHYTEC and logi.cals

In cooperation with logi.cals, PHYTEC is offering the phyPLC kit starting December 2016. It is based on the phyBOARD-Regor from PHYTEC, running on Linux BSP with the logi.cals soft PLC solution. It combines tried and true PLC controllers with the functionality of modern embedded systems. Customers can keep using their existing PLC codes, that are used for example in automation applications, but still integrate the controllers into IoT networks. The phyBOARD-Regor is equipped amongst other things with two Ethernet interfaces and one CAN interface. Together with the Linux operating system, it provides the basis for the software for interpreting PLC codes and expands the areas of application with the functionality of modern embedded systems.

AML.hub® – Round trip engineering

Engineering projects for automated systems require cooperation between many different engineering disciplines such as mechanics, electrics and software engineering. However, software tool networks are often based on point-to-point data exchange.
The AML.hub concept enables the systematic integration of software tools and uses the open standard AutomationML for creating an integrated system model based on tool data. This allows engineering processes to be automated more easily and discipline-specific tree topologies and views to be defined.

dSys – Controllers with modularity and connectivity

dSys has been developing and delivering customised control concepts for various sectors since 1998. The modularity and connectivity of the developed systems has been a trademark right from the beginning. The TORERO controller platform makes it possible to create customer-specific controller solutions using standard components. Using tried and true, certified components as the base keeps development risk to a minimum. It also substantially reduces the time for development. The design of the controllers can also be customised according to the customer's requirements, even for smaller unit quantities.

emtrion – Dual-core processor with long-term availability

emtrion introduces its new module emCON-RZ/G1M. It is equipped with a powerful dual-core Cortex-A15 processor from Renesas. Thanks to its high processing power, performant multimedia features and emtrion's long-term availability guarantee, it is perfectly suited for industrial usage and HMI applications. In addition, emtrion's software specialists make the operating systems Linus, Windows Embedded, QNX FreeRTOS, Android and ready-to-use BPSs available to you.
